How do you get New Yorkers to open up about something they’d rather keep private?
You make it feel human, approachable, and just mischievous enough to say, “Why not?” That’s exactly what Cleo, the AI financial assistant with attitude, pulled off in New York City.
Cleo set out to spark an honest conversation around money with a street-level, accessible experience built on warmth, wit, and a free pastry bribe (the good stuff).
So they partnered with one of NYC’s most beloved cult bakeries, Unregular Bakery, to host the Cleo Confessional Café, a two-day pop-up designed to get Gen Z talking about their real financial challenges.
Most people aren’t honest with themselves about money, but honesty is the first step toward healthier habits, and Cleo wanted to spark that shift.
We transformed a corner of the bakery into a playful financial confessional — half cozy café nook, half truth room — giving people a low-pressure space to anonymously spill the tea on their money stresses.
The deal was simple: install the Cleo app and your pastry was free!
Confession optional. Curiosity guaranteed.
Behind the scenes, the experiential pop-up required a full production lift: venue scouting and securing, window installs, floor decals, countertop signage, a dedicated confessional interview area, tabletoppers, and a crew of on-site producers ensuring every detail felt intentional, warm, and on-brand.
The brand provided a host of creators and influencer to visit over the three days.
Why this Cafe Pop-Up Was a Smart Move
Finance is intimidating — pastries aren’t. Be Universal. Say less.
Real-world pop-ups spark true UGC, creator moments, and influencer-worthy content without even trying.
You can’t engage everyone — so do something supercool, then amplify it to impact people nationwide.
