Game show flash mob activation in San Francisco for Orange County tourism
The goal was to promote Orange County, California destinations (e.g., Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, etc.) as weekend getaways for people living in the Bay Area.
The experiential activation concept involved a game show-style flash mob.
People on the street were greeted by a game show host asking people to answer questions about Orange County.
Everyone who participated in the game was inviting people to pick a suitcase to win what’s inside.
To attract attention, the team outed bright ‘orange’ shirts, caps, and travel suitcases with OC branding.
The street team, additionally, moved around target downtown San Francisco areas in groups, performing synchronized moves.
All the prizes related to OC tourism (e.g., weekend trips, beach, water bottles, etc.)
The experiential street team marketing activation occurred on a single day, in several locations (e.g., Union Square, SOMA, Financial District, etc.)
It was documented via HD photographers and videographers to create long-form content for social media.
How this street marketing activation helped Orange County Tourism?
1.) The high-profile activation garnered tons of public as well as media attention
2.) Produced visually captivating images and video for social media
3.) The well-branded team served as a walking human billboard throughout target areas
4.) Prizes inside the suitcases served as marketing materials
It is a perfect example of how tourism organizations can produce a standout, memorable, and exciting experience while achieving strategic company goals.
Certainly, our favorite tourism marketing event activation to date!
