To mark its 20th anniversary, Mozilla Firefox teamed up with ALT TERRAIN to shake off the typical “tech brand” stereotype and bring its mission to the streets — literally. A real-world multi-sensory manifesto on privacy, weirdness, creativity, and community.
The “Nothing Personal, Just Browsing” campaign theme was brought to life throughout Chicago with immersive, rolling brand worlds — the kind where protecting your data just makes sense.
Weird, Wonderful, and Wildly Memorable
Firefox hit Chicago’s streets with two wild and wonderfully weird mobile pop-ups:
The Bigfoot Conspiracy Den
This rolling installation was dressed like a basement from your most bizarre Reddit thread — cluttered with maps, string, and cryptic clues. It was a loving tribute to the tinfoil-hat-wearing internet sleuth in all of us. Those who stepped inside walked away with a woodsy-scented candle and a reminder: what you browse is your business.
The PlantCore Installation
Inside this lush, green oasis was a very devoted plant-lover — chatting with her ferns, fussing over leaves, and probably Googling “why is my monstera sad?” on Firefox.
Visitors got a free houseplant and a joyful new way to think about personal browsing: private, peaceful, and totally them.
Both vehicles embodied Firefox’s belief that the internet should be a reflection of you — not a blueprint for someone else’s ad targeting.
Outdoor Amplification
Firefox amplified their experiential pop-up with a citywide outdoor presence — spanning billboards, bus stops, and pole posters.
What Made This Chicago Marketing Activation Notable:
You constantly need to reintroduce itself - especially when a new generation - Gen Zers - are on the rise.
It isn't easy for a tech brand to be liked, so this campaign leaned into activities people embrace.
While it may seem like superficial fun, but there is intention, education, and community behind these activities.
