New York Road Runners (NYRR) partnered with ALT TERRAIN to promote their free weekly community walks and runs at neighborhood parks

The NYRR nonprofit community-building initiative consisted of grassroots outreach consisting of street kiosk marketing, flyer distribution, and poster advertising

The outreach focused was on mid to lower-income communities in Brooklyn, Uptown Manhattan, and the Bronx

To reach a majority of people in each neighborhood, street kiosks were strategically placed near subway and bus stations

Flyers and posters distributed in bodegas, laundromats, salons, barbershops, and a variety of other establishments and community social hubs

Why is this community outreach marketing approach a smart idea?

1.) Posters, flyers, and street teams can be activated in target neighborhoods on desired days

2.) Flyers distribution reaches shop owners, who are influencers in their own right, as well as the public

3.) It increased weekly meetup attendance and well as local community event volunteers
